Details have been released of the arrangements for the Remembrance Sunday commemorations in St Ives, Hayle, and Lelant.
The war memorial opposite St Ia Parish Church, in St Ives
In St Ives, members of the Royal British Legion and other organisations will assemble at the Guildhall at 10.40am. Ten minutes later, the parade will set off to the war memorial via Tregenna Place and High Street.
Following the two minutes’ silence at 11am, wreaths will be laid. The wreath from the mayor of St Ives will be laid first, followed by those of the Royal British Legion and other organisations. The parade will leave the memorial at 11.15am and proceed to the Parish Church for a service.
Following the conclusion of the proceedings, the parade will return to the Guildhall. There, the National Anthem will be played, and the parade dismissed.
In Lelant, a Remembrance Day service will get under way in the Parish Church at 9.25am. The Rev Etienne van Blerk will conduct the service and will preach the sermon. Ken Messenger, deputy mayor of St Ives, will read the lesson.
At 10am, there will be a laying of wreaths at the first and second world war memorials in the church by Cllr Messenger and the vicar’s warden. The service will end in a blessing, and the congregation will be asked to remain in their seats while the civic party leaves the church. The assembly will proceed to the war memorial. After the two minutes’ silence, the laying of wreaths will take place.
Hayle’s Remembrance Day arrangements will get under way with a service at St Elwyn’s Church at 10am, to which all are welcome.
The parade to the war memorial will commence at 10.45am, and a service there will begin at 10.55am. Refreshments will be served afterwards by the ATC at the Drill Hall.
