Dog owners are being reminded to check restrictions for their four-legged friends on Cornish beaches, which are now in place until the end of September.
Locally, dogs are not permitted on the following beaches between 10am and 6pm this summer:
- Porthmeor, St Ives
- Porthminster, St Ives
In addition, there are three protected wildlife areas where dogs are banned all year round (24 hours a day). These are:
- Carnsew Pool
- Copperhouse Pool
- Hayle Estuary
“I ask that dog owners respect the restrictions that are in place and be considerate to other beach users,” said Martin Alvey, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for climate change and environment.
“If you are taking your dogs to the seaside during the permitted times, we ask that you keep your pets under control and make sure you pick up after them.
“We have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and we must all play our part in keeping them clean and tidy.”
It is an offence to take a dog on a beach during restricted times, or to allow a dog to foul and not clear up after it. Either could result in a fixed penalty notice of £100.
