New Craftsman Gallery is to host a vibrant exhibition by artist Emily Powell, inspired by an imaginary world of intensely coloured floral landscapes.

Painted in her distinctive bold and brilliant palette, this uplifting collection demonstrates her talent for touching allegory, subtle wit, and powerful emotion.

Expressions of love and joy are central to Emily’s work, characterised by a host of exotic flying creatures amid scenes filled with curious trees and vivid flowers, and enhanced by her preference for painting on a monumental scale in a way that immerses the viewer in a world of colour and fantasy.

Emily studied at Norwich School of Art and at the Ecole RĂ©gionale des Beaux-Arts de Rouen in France. She has exhibited with the Royal Society of Arts, collaborated with MoMA, National Galleries of Scotland, and the British Museum, and in 2022 she was invited to paint the entrance of London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

Also on show, ceramicist Matthew Chambers will be presenting new work that demonstrates significant advances in his practice.

Matthew’s extraordinary work is born from his love of geometric and constructivist art, architecture, and design. Each piece is an abstract exploration of shape that combines traditional processes with contemporary forms, using stoneware clays that have been pre-coloured with oxides and stains.

Taking fresh and challenging angles on his extraordinary forms, this exhibition is a masterclass in the creativity, skill, and technical brilliance that has put Matthew at the forefront of 21st century ceramics.

Emily and Matthew’s work will be on show from 10th August to 6th September.
