St Ives Community Choir will be celebrating their 20th anniversary with a celebration concert at Fore Street Methodist Church, St Ives, at 7pm on 20th September.
Three people have each played a key part in the success of the choir. Katrina Geraghty founded it in September 2004 and was musical director until 2011. William Thomas took over that post and remains there today. Alison Ashby has been the choir’s accompanist for the full 20 years.
They have each waived any thought of fees, giving of their time freely for the love of the choir, recognising its importance to the community.
From the outset, the aim was to provide a fun, safe environment, enabling people who loved singing to join a choir without having to audition. The choir continues to thrive and, since 2004, many charities have received donations from funds raised through their concerts and other events.
“We begin practising songs for our Christmas programme on Tuesday, 8th October,” secretary and treasurer Lynda Thomas tells St Ives Local.
If anyone is interested in joining the choir at that time, contact Lynda on 01736 796832 for further details.
