Andrew George MP met a delegation of West Cornwall farmers yesterday, in London to protest against inheritance tax measures in the Budget.
They were part of a delegation of NFU members who converged on Westminster from all over the country.
“After years of being severely let down by the Conservatives, now our farmers face this!” said Mr George.
“I suspect government ministers removed this tax concession as a reaction to the super-rich who have piled into farmland ownership as a convenient vehicle for tax avoidance.
“However, this measure could cause significant collateral damage to family farms operating on the very margins of survival.
“If ministers don’t go back to the drawing board, they must at least work harder to better protect genuine working family farms.”
