The planning appeal to decide upon a plan to build a Premier Inn hotel in St Ives will he held on Wednesday, 19th March. All are welcome to attend.

How the development, on Trewidden Road, would look
The hearing is due to get under way at 10am at the Tregenna Castle Resort. It will hear Premier Inn’s appeal against refusal of planning permission to build a hotel on the site of the Cornwallis Nursing Home in Trewidden Road, St Ives.
Members of the public may attend the hearing and, at the inspector’s discretion, express their views. If you wish to attend, you are asked to email planningappeals@cornwall.gov.uk and include your name and e-mail address.
A campaign group has raised a list of objections to the plan, which would involve the construction of a 90-bedroom hotel. The group says the development:
- would breach the historic skyline and ruin the landscape
- would be unneighbourly in the extreme and would result in significant loss of privacy and more noise
- would result in the closure of the last remaining care home in St Ives
- would provide only 20 parking spaces for a 90-bed hotel
- would be built on a road that is already congested for much of the year
- is not needed as there is already an over-supply of tourist accommodation of all kinds
- offers no compelling economic case to justify lasting damage to the affected residential area and town skyline
- has the support of no-one.
In refusing the plan, Cornwall councillors felt the development would result in an adverse impact upon the area and skyline due to its height and massing.
Whitbread, parent company of Premier Inn, said: “We remain committed to our plans to bring a Premier Inn to St Ives and our belief that it will generate year-round employment and bring economic benefit to the town.”
