A new date has been set for the St Ives Biathlon, which had to be cancelled in June due to adverse weather conditions.

The event, organised by St Ives Surf Life Saving Club, will now take place on Saturday, 12th September.
“Due to the weather and sea conditions, consulting with the RNLI, we took the tough decision to postpone the Biathlon,” said club treasurer and biathlon organiser Duncan Wilson. “We were bitterly disappointed, but the safety and wellbeing of all involved had to come first.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to all our sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and the RNLI for their support, and to all our competitors who we know will have been disappointed. We would like to thank them for their understanding.”
The St Ives Biathlon started approximately 50 years as The Sloop Slog, with entrants celebrating with a Cornish Bakehouse pasty and The Sloop Inn scoop afterwards — a tradition that’s still going strong.
During the charity’s 28 years of running the biathlon, the club have only had to cancel the event once, due to Covid restrictions.
This is the first time the biathlon will take place during September, and due to fewer daylight hours, the junior and novice races will be combined, both starting at 6:30pm. This will allow the main/open race to be brought forward, which will now start at 7pm.
