St Ives Archive is collating material to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the Queen in June.
As there was no tangible marking of her accession to the throne in February 1952, it intends to feature celebratory events in St Ives at the time of the coronation, on or around 2nd June, 1953).
The aim is to create a document redolent of the time based on the recollections of those who were there.
The archive, which is collaborating with the town council and Times & Echo on the project, is looking for memorabilia for consideration for inclusion. This could comprise photographs, papers, anecdotal memories, or details of things people did to organise or help make events happen.
For instance there was a parade of the International Salvation Army Band through the town, and several street parties where the youngest child received a silver crown from mayor Marion Pearce. Perhaps you were one of them ?
The Archive can receive submissions in two ways:
- At the Library, on Wednesday 13th April, between 10am and 1pm, where an Archive trustee will be present to collect and discuss items
- Digitally by email to admin@stivesarchive.org by Monday, 18th April at the latest.
