The St Ives harbour master’s team will be carrying out ‘beach recycling’ works in the harbour today and tomorrow (30th September and 1st October).
The work is taking place on the main slipway opposite the Sloop Inn. It’s the result of significant sand accretion on the main slipway and the beach opposite the pub.
This sand is now also causing issues on the highway and it has been agreed that beach recycling will be undertaken to relocate sand which has built up to areas of erosion within the harbour area, says the town council.
Machinery will be operating three hours each side of low water today and tomorrow. There will be limited access down the main slipway, and some access points to the harbour area will be closed during this time.
The council and harbour master stress that the exercise will see the relocation of sand within the harbour area. No sand will be removed from the harbour or the St Ives Bay sand cell.
Anyone with questions regarding this activity should contact the harbour master on 07933 173958.
