Independent readers have confirmed what we already knew — that St Ives is the best seaside resort in Britain.
The online newspaper staged a competition on Twitter, pitting resorts against each other in rounds, like the FA Cup.
Along the way it defeated big names such as Bournemouth, Torquay, Blackpool, Brighton and Cornwall’s Newquay before beating Tenby, South Wales, in the final.
Resident of the Welsh resort, Laurence Hourahane, said: “In our BBC It’s A Knockout heat in 1977, Tency finished last. It’s been 43 years of hurt since then.”
Malcom Bell, chief executive of Visit Cornwall, told The Independent: “I am delighted, but not overly surprised. The beaches, coastline around the town, the harbour, and the narrow streets all come together to create near perfection.”
