Today’s the day when Christmas 2019 celebrations officially get under way in St Ives.

Father Christmas will be arriving in town on the RNLI Lifeboat at 6pm and will tour the town. He will finish up at Royal Square for the switch-on of the Christmas lights.

From that moment on, a varied programme of events, running right through until New Year’s Eve, gets started.

Tomorrow, there will be free parking in town as the historic Fayre Mo marks the traditional start of the festive season, at the St Ia Parish Church.

St Ives in December has partnered with the town’s Business Improvement District (BID) team to bring the programme together.

St Ives BID funds the town’s annual Christmas lights and New Year celebrations. It aims, particularly, to make New Year’s Eve safe for all.

And there will be a renewed focus on fighting the amount of litter left after the event.

Full details of the festive celebrations in town can be found in the new issue of our magazine, distributed this week. If you don’t have a copy, they can be picked up at various locations around St Ives (see below). Click our online what’s on guide here.
