Covid cases are on the rise in St Ives, with a number of hospitality businesses forced to close their doors.
It is also reported that two of the police contingent in town for the G7 conference have tested positive, along with a climate protestor.
Two St Austell Brewery premises — The Lifeboat Inn and the Pedn Olva Hotel — have closed. The Porthgwidden Beach Cafe, Western Hotel, and Pilchard Press Alehouse have all closed temporarily.
Liberal Democrat county councillor Andrew George, who speaks for the party on health matters, suspected a covid spike had occured through the mix of security staff, police, and media attending the G7 from around the country.
Before G7, he had called for the government to publish advice on the possibility of the summit leading to a Covid spike. But he said this had been refused on security grounds. He told The Guardian: “We won’t know the full consequences of what has been going on possibly for a fortnight.”
