Police are asking for help to trace a man in his 60s who allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old boy — who had a broken elbow — while he was walking a dog.
The victim, who visibly had his arm in a sling, was walking his dog, with his father, toward Porthkidney beach, Lelant, on Monday, 6th July, at around 6pm. They came across a man, described as white and in his 60s, walking a black labrador dog. The labrador is said to have been very dominant towards the father and son’s dog, causing them to have to intervene.
The victim said the labrador owner was shouting as he and his father were trying to get their dog back. They managed to do this, but when they were about to walk away, the labrador walker is said to have punched the 12-year-old in the shoulder.
The victim had his arm in a sling due to recently breaking his elbow, and this would have been visible to the suspect. The man reportedly then hurried away while the boy told his father what had happened. The victim said he father tried to stop the man, but he had run away with his dog.
Police are appealing for any information or CCTV concerning the incident. They would also like to know if anyone else in the local area has had any similar issues, or knows the man. Call 101 or contact the force via their website, quoting reference number 50260175973.
Separately, officers are also investigating a report of an elderly woman who sustained a serious leg injury after being bitten by a dog in Hayle on 24th April. The incident took place at 3.20pm, when the woman was walking her own dog along a footpath by the play park near Hayle Recreational Ground.
The 81-year-old local woman was taken to hospital and has since been released, but is still receiving medical treatment for her wound.
It was reported the dog involved in the attack was on a lead at the time. It has been described as a Labrador type of dog and was light beige/golden in colour. The owner of the dog is described as a woman in her late 30s to early 40s, of slim build with short hair.
