Chris Clare, a regular visitor to the town, has set up the fundraising page at gofundme.com/f/fishing-vessel-fire

He said: “I care about the town and the people in it, especially the ones whose livelihoods depend on it. As a self-employed plumber whose lifeline depends on his van and tools for putting food on the table, today, seeing the gutted crew of the Keriolet in St Ives, following the fire in the early hours onboard their fishing vessel, hit home.

“Their insurance may cover the damage to the boat, but I wonder if it covers the crews wages?”

Fire crews from St Ives and Hayle were called to the fire at 3.18am on Sunday. On arrival, they found the wheelhouse of the vessel to be well alight. They used two main jets and two sets of breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
