St Ives Jazz Club, which meets weekly in the Western Hotel, is to host two special concerts during the September Festival.

Webb City

On Tuesday (13th September) the guest artists are trio Webb City (pictured above), featuring Joe Webb (piano), Dave Archer (guitar), and Will Sach (double bass).

Long-time collaborators Dave and Joe have spent the past eight years playing together as part of Kansas Smitty’s, among other ensembles. They met New York native Will five years ago on the London jazz scene.

Webb City unite through their shared love of the Oscar Peterson, Nat ‘King’ Cole, and Art Tatum trios. Formed in summer last year, the trio have quickly established themselves, performing in London and touring nationally.

Webb City’s current UK tour, The Art of Tatum, presents their modern take on the iconic work of the famed Art Tatum trio. They have been recording their debut album this year.

Soledade Najar

The following Tuesday (20th September), Daniela Soledade and Nate Najar (pictured above) present Love & Bossa Nova Live. Daniela is highly acclaimed for her poignantly expressive vocal style and hyper-intimate aesthetic. With a tremendous talent for paying tribute to her musical heritage while staying true to her own artistry, she is a mix of authentic bossa nova, samba, MPB, and American popular song.

In 2019, she released her critically acclaimed debut album A Moment of You, featuring songs in both English and Portuguese. Downbeat Magazine praised the album as “a careful curation of compositions… each of them contributing the perfect nuanced sound, intimacy, harmonious melodies and poetic rhythms, while injecting the music with much-needed freshness”.

Daniela also boasts a robust online presence. The vocalist regularly publishes thoughtfully curated content, including a rigorous recording and video release schedule. During 2020, she teamed up with guitarist and producer Nate Najar to livestream a weekly duo concert series entitled Love & Bossa Nova. Running for over a year, the series was featured by Jazz Times, hailing both Daniela’s “exquisite vocals” and Nate’s “masterful” guitar playing.
