The funding brings new job opportunities, a chance to become part of a once-in-a-lifetime programme.

The Leach Pottery: The Next 100 Years is a £9.6m capital programme which will invest in new learning and production studio facilities, repair and conserve the historic buildings, and reinterpret the site through new displays and exhibition spaces.

“The project will significantly enhance our visitors’ experience,” said a spokesperson. “We will expand our provision for our local communities and create more opportunities to engage in the unique story of this internationally renowned site.”

The new roles on offer include:

  • Two new coordinator roles within the learning programme, Make with Leach. This offers participants who would otherwise face barriers accessing the Leach Pottery ways of engaging with the pottery and its ideas. The programme enables the development of new and transferable skills, qualifications, and rehabilitation.
  • A communications and marketing apprentice to support the stakeholder communications manager in delivering Leach Pottery’s communications and marketing on a day-to-day basis.
  • A volunteer coordinator who will help to ensure that the Leach Pottery evolves as a nurturing and exciting place for volunteers. They will play a central role in the Leach Pottery team and support the delivery of the National Lottery Heritage Fund capital and activity programmes.

There are also three roles relating to the development of the new museum:

  • An interpretation lead as part of a significant redevelopment of the Leach Pottery site, to deliver a final installation that will cater to diverse audiences.
  • An interpretation curator who will work with the interpretation lead and the interpretation design team to develop tnew museum displays. This will include working with the learning and participation team to create opportunities for creating content with the local St Ives community and the national studio pottery community.
  • A curatorial assistant, collections, to work with the curator and deputy director and the interpretation and design teams to develop and deliver interpretive content for the capital development and activity programmes. They will support all aspects of preparing collection displays, exhibitions, and loans across the site.

“We are excited to be undertaking a major transformational project at Leach Pottery, and we are looking for some new colleagues to join the team and help us to deliver our ambitions,” said Gary Topp, chair of Leach Pottery’s trustees.

“This is an exciting time to join the Leach team, and we very much look forward to hearing about your skills, expertise, and ideas.

“We are thrilled to have received this support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players we can develop the Leach Pottery for generations to come.”
