A temporary road closure will be in place for a week from 3rd March so that National Grid can carry out essential work outside Market House, St Ives.

The work will address a fault discovered as part of the development work which will see the Market House become home to St Ives Archive.

There will be redirection of traffic in place to minimise disruption. “We appreciate the patience and support of the community while the National Grid completes these essential works,” said a town council spokesperson.

The town council has worked closely with St Ives Archive to ensure the sensitive restoration and re-use of this key heritage building in the heart of St Ives. A carefully-planned programme of works has been developed to upgrade Market House, making it fit for the future while preserving its historic character.

Improvements include the installation of a lift — a more suitable replacement for the later-added staircase — an accessible ground-floor toilet, and a renovated research room. A bespoke, purpose-built archive storage system will also be installed.
