Neil Davies has revisited his favourite locations on the Moorlands and coastline of west Cornwall for his new exhibition, Out & About, at St Ives’ New Craftsman Gallery.

Rain Blowing In, Rosewall, by Neil Davies
After Neil’s one-year sabbatical from exhibiting in order to refurbish his studio, above St Ives, he has turned his attention back to painting, getting ‘out and about’, looking for changes in the rural landscape, with the hope and prospect of chancing upon the unexpected.
Following the landscape through seasonal extremes in weather, from storms and heavy rainfall to hot summer droughts, these works present images of familiar places with a difference, viewed by the artist in a new light or from a new angle. They also explore the interplay between agriculture, land management, and nature in our rural landscapes, such as the recent introduction by the National Trust of grazing ponies to west Cornwall, and the resulting alterations to its ancient the terrain.
This much anticipated collection continues Neil Davies’ talent for powerful compositions, high-energy brushwork, and the distinctive and deeply dramatic palette that has made him one of Cornwall’s foremost landscape painters.
Out & About is at the New Craftsman Gallery, St Ives, now, and run until 18th July.
