The exhibition captures the luminous spirit, ever-shifting weather, and dramatic horizons of the Cornish coastline — a fitting tribute to St Ives’ artistic heritage and its magnetic pull for landscape painters.
Jenny Hirst was born in Cheshire in 1954. She completed a foundation diploma in art and design in 2002, having run an interior design business for nine years.
Since then, her works have been exhibited in galleries in Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire, North and South Wales and the Lake District. She has also exhibited and sold work at the Manchester, Bristol, Cambridge, London and New York Art Fairs since 2007, and has worked on several commissions for homes and offices. The Langham Hotel, Regent Street, London has a painting in their new conference centre lobby.
Jenny lives in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, where she works from her studio. She is represented exclusively in St Ives by the Porthminster Gallery.
Martyn Perryman, born in 1963, recently moved to Cornwall and primarily works from his studio at home, in Kehelland, Camborne. He also has a converted sail loft in St Ives.
Through the media of oil on canvas and oil on paper, Martyn creates seascapes and landscapes, focusing on the horizon. He takes inspiration from regular coastal walks. Martyn will revisit a place, returning to the same viewpoint, making sketches and colour studies to use back in the studio.
On leaving school, Martyn started work as a studio assistant for the sculptor John Rivera, president of the Royal Society of Sculptors. From there he moved into retail display, working as studio manager at Harvey Nichols, London, before going on to have his own successful display company for many years. In 2007 he graduated with a BA (Hons) in fine art and design (first class) from Wimbledon College of Art.
Martyn’s work is presently represented by several galleries. He also regularly takes part in exhibitions, including the Royal Society of Marine Artists at The Mall Galleries, London. His work is in private collections in the UK, Australia, and California. Two paintings are in the Royal Palace Hotel, Dubai.
