Walkers are being alerted to keep away from a sinkhole which has appeared on Porthminster beach, St Ives.

The sinkhole has been appearing near the beach cafe for many years, but recent storms have damaged barriers around it.

A Cornwall council spokesperson said: “The council has carried out surveys both on the beach and on the open space behind the beach to help try ti establish the cause of the problem, and understand how best to mitigate it…

“Until the problem is dealt with, we will continue to monitor and would ask beach users to keep clear of the area. Cormac has been alerted that the fencing needs attention.”
