St Ives Pilot Gig Club has announced that its Raft Race will return on Sunday, 10th August, with the start set for 5pm.

St Ives Raft Race

Teams from local businesses and organisations, tackle a course from the Sloop slip to the Arcade steps, on to the lifeboat house slip — where they pick up a team mermaid or merman — then across to Smeaton’s lighthouse before returning to the Sloop.

Flour bombs are being discouraged this year to support care of the marine environment. However, seaweed ‘jelly bombs’ will be for sale. These are biodegradable and become fish food.

Hakes Wags will hopefully be defending their title. Proceeds from the event go to local good causes. The entry fee is £30 per raft, to be paid by 31st July. Find out more by emailing pilotgigclubstives@gmail.com.
