Ross Keeler and Immy Wood have won the respective men’s and women’s open classes of the St Ives Biathlon, which was staged for the 29th time last night.

The event, sponsored by Cornish Riviera Holidays and organised by St Ives Surf Life Saving Club, was enjoyed by hundreds of people, both taking part and supporting.

With many local organisations and businesses supporting the event, approximately 250 people entered across all age groups and categories. New and returning participants travelled from across the county and the country — from Coventry, Surrey, and Southampton, as well as further afield across the UK.

Entry fees, business sponsorship, and donations/sales on the day are now being calculated, with the event always a significant fundraiser for the cub. They have been operating for 68 years and rely on this flagship event for vital club funds each year.

“This year’s Biathlon has been fantastic,” said club chair and biathlon co-lead Chris Simpson. “Hundreds of people took part, and hundreds more supported them. We are extremely grateful to the many local people and organisations that have supported us once again in organising the event and keeping people safe whilst participating.

“Huge thanks go to SISLSC committee members, RNLI lifeguards for their continued dedication and support late into a Saturday evening, RNLI inshore lifeboat crew, club board paddlers and lifeguards, marshals, stallholders, goody bag packers, kit transporters, the Salvation Army for use of their building, The Hub for our media desk, Carbis Bay Hotel for supplying a water station, and many businesses for raffle prizes.”
