Not for the first time, participants in St Ives Feast Day needed wet weather gear and umbrellas, but the rain didn’t stop the fun.

Because of the ongoing Guildhall renovations, the focus of the day shifted to St Ia Parish Church, from where mayor, Johnnie Wells, threw the silver ball, once the civic parade had returned from St Ia’s Well, at Porthmeor.
Unfortunately, his throwing was a little too energetic and the ball had to be retrieved from the water by a smiling Joby Godophin, of the Storm In A Teacup guest house. The silver ball was duly returned to the mayor at noon by young Oscar Godolphin.

“A special thank you to St Ia Parish Church for kindly hosting this year,” said the town council on social media, “and to the wonderful performers who truly lifted the day — Bagas an Norvys Band, Pendeen Silver Band (who led Sunday’s parade), and the fantastic pupils from St Uny C of E and St Ives Infants, who all did themselves proud.
“Thanks also to the Cornish Bakehouse and the Edward Hain Centre for warming everyone up with their delicious pasties, cakes and hot drinks.”
