The St Ives Shanty Shout returns this weekend, with performances across a number of venues on Friday and Saturday, 25th and 26th November.

Clockwise from top left: Acapella Moonshine, Kimbers Buffers, from Liverpool, The Drecklys, at the Castle Inn, and the Old Gaffers Shanty Crew at Bier Huis Grand Café

More than 100 singers, from Cornwall and beyond, will present songs recalling adventures from the days of sail, as well as modern songs of work and love in seaside towns. Among the returning choirs are Kimber’s Men, from Liverpool, with their powerful and poignant harmonies.

The Bier Huis Grand Café, Café Art, the Castle Inn, Golden Lion, Pilchard Press Alehouse, Queen’s Hotel, and the Western Hotel will resound with rousing tunes and magical melodies.

Entry to all the venues is free, and visitors are encouraged to donate generously to support the League of Friends of Edward Hain Memorial Hospital in the creation of the Edward Hain Centre for health and wellbeing. On Saturday, there will also be an auction of an artist-enhanced print by the artist and shanty singer Donald MacLeod.

The Shanty Shout allows visitors and locals to enjoy the music and stories in a relaxed atmosphere. The enjoyment and enthusiasm of the performers is infectious, and those new to shanty are just as likely to have a fantastic time as seasoned fans.
