The Cornwall Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt has gone on display at St Ia Parish Church, St Ives, ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday (10th September).
The quilt is a memorial to people across Cornwall who have died by suicide. Each name and contribution represents a person who is deeply missed by their families, friends, and communities.
Alongside the quilt is information about Cornwall Council’s Orange Button Community Scheme, including details of fully funded suicide intervention and Mental Health First Aid training available to people living or working in Cornwall. The training is available to everyone living or working in Cornwall aged 16 or over.
There is a second Cornwall quilt which will be part of a Suicide Prevention Conference, organised by the Consortium For The Prevention of Suicide. This will be displayed in Lloyds of London.
“Help us make 10th September count,” said Val Ribbons, Cornwall Project Lead for the Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt. “More conversations mean less quilts.”
