Fifteen-year-old Ruby Hampson was a three-time champion and Tristan Wynne won the men’s singles title for a modern-day record fourth time on tournament finals day at St Ives Tennis Club.
Ladies’ singles, ladies’ doubles, and mixed double champion Ruby Hampson
Ruby retained the ladies’ singles title she first won two years ago with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Natalie Oliver. She then went on to team up with Beth Scorer to win the ladies’ doubles, beating tournament director Gill Stainton and Natalie Oliver 6-4, 6-0.
Her hat-trick of victories came in the mixed doubles final where Ruby and Tristan Wynne battled to a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Steffi Apicella and Simon Clifford.
A top-quality men’s singles final saw Tristan take the opening set 6-2 against 17-year-old Archie Stirling before the teenager came storming back to take the second 6-0, only to narrowly lose out as Tris secured a tense deciding tie-break 10-7.
But Archie got his hands on silverware as he partnered Eiko Thielemann to a 6-2, 6-2 men’s doubles win over Bill Peters and Jeremy Sharp.

Ten hours of top club tennis, watched by the biggest audience for many years, finally came to a conclusion with another close encounter as Natalie Oliver retained the ladies’ over-50 singles cup with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over doubles partner Gill Stainton.
Bill Peters regained the men’s over-50s singles title when his opponent withdrew with an injury before the final.
Four plate consolation events saw Simon Wynne — Tristan’s brother — beat Adrian Botterell in the men’s singles, Jeremy Sharp defeat Mike Sinclair in the men’s over-50s, David Harrap and Colin Stringer beat Tim Simpson and Josh Cole in the men’s doubles, and Rob and Lou King overcome Bill and Kath Peters in the mixed doubles.
