The actions of a clothes seller who operated unlicensed from Wharf Road, St Ives, earlier this summer, are still causing concern.

At St Ives Town Council, Mayor Andrew Mitchell said he’d like to see Charlie Thomas tracked down to face up to his activity.
He was responding to concern from Steve Hynes that the trader was boasting of taking of £1,500 in one day this summer, at the expense of local shopkeepers who pay rates and other business costs.
“It’s hard enough running a shop with someone else setting up illegally,Mr Hynes told the council. “He’s flouted the law and he’s all over the internet, his seeing it as an opportunity, and I think it’s disgraceful.”
Mr Mitchell agreed, saying: “I thought his PR bit afterwards was an absolute disgrace. It was all about him, and also all about sticking two fingers up to the licensing committee.”
It was unfortunate, he said, that having similar business near such a pitch was no longer a consideration when applying for a street traders’ licence, but not having a licence at all was an issue.
“Somebody must known where he lives,” said the Mayor. “I’d like to see the licensing enforced.”
