A special event is coming up on 8th August to mark the 170th anniversary of St Ives artist Alfred Wallis’s birth, and marking 100 years since he started painting.

Alfred Wallis book

Wallis biographer Matilda Webb will be hosting an informal drop-in Q&A at the Rose Lodge, on St Ives Wharf, from 2-4pm.

Matilda recently published an in-depth biography of Wallis, officially launched at the St Ives Museum. The book has been very well received, particularly by members of Wallis’s family.

Speaking at the launch, Wallis’s step-great-great-grandson, Tony Farrell, said: “I think it would be true to say that this is probably the final word that has to be said on Wallace’s life… The quality of research is superb. This is a work of great scholarly bent.”

Join Matilda on 8th August to chat all things Wallis over a slice of birthday cake.
