Police have issued a warning to beware of bogus cold callers after a householder reported an incident in Hayle last week.

Doorstep crime

Two males purported to be calling to conduct a ‘drain survey’, but they failed to identify the company or their details when asked to do so. The white van they drove in had no company logo or information on it.

“Please be vigilant and wary of all cold callers,” said a police spokesperson. “All employees of these companies must identify themselves correctly. If unsure, contact the company to verify the name and credentials before allowing them into your home.

“If in doubt, keep them out. Ask them to make an appointment or come back later when someone else is around. Genuine callers won’t mind. If you are suspicious, report the incident to the police.”
