The Edward Hain Centre has been awarded £172,090 National Lottery Community Fund grant, ahead of a second anniversary celebration on 6th September.

As well as contributing to running costs, the money will fund two new staff members.
The award comes after nearly two years of waiting. The application was compiled over several months by director Sharron Goldingay and fundraising strategist Samantha Peters.
“Grants are very specific in what they fund, and the funds have to be used for the purpose for which they’ve applied, and nothing else,” said a centre spokesperson in a statement.
“So, for example, this new grant cannot be used for building costs or paying down any of our mortgage, funds for which will need to come from elsewhere. What it will begin funding very soon, however, is two new staff members, which will assist us in our growth; and help towards running costs.”
The second anniversary celebration takes place at the centre on Saturday, 6th September, from 11am-4pm. Entry is free and all will be welcome. There will be a chance to:
- Talk to trustees and staff
- Meet teams from groups such as St Ives Foodbank, Penwith Ear Care, and Samantha Evamy Councseilling, who use the centre as a base
- A ‘Postcards from the Edward Hain’ craft event, run by Make It Better CIC
- Demonstrations of chair yoga by Tracey Opie, of Root Yoga and living free of fears by Wendy Power Stoten
- A talk on volunteering
- A children’s singalong
- Refreshments, including barbecue, and live music
