Residents are being consulted on the idea of a shipping container-based café being introduced at the Palemon Best recreation ground, alongside the skateboard park.

The proposal is that the café would comprise two containers, powered by renewable energy if possible. There would be a commercial kitchen and service area, indoor seating/lounge, and adaptable spaces.

Outside garden/seating areas would enjoy views over the play park and skate park, and there would be full disabled access. A toilet facility would be provided, along with external drinking water, for both humans and dogs.

It is also proposed to run two training courses in catering and hospitality, including environmental health officer-approved level 1 and 2 food hygiene certificates.

The town council, which owns and manages the recreation ground as trustee of a charity, is asking:

  • Do you support the idea of a café at the rec?
  • Do you have any comments about the proposals?
  • Is there anything you’d like to see included or changed?
